Canadian Snow Train - 7-day winter rail holiday across Canada
Experience the best of the snow-covered Canadian wilderness and spectacular winter vistas scenery as you travel across Canada this winter. As you travel from Toronto to Vancouver, you’ll meet travelling companions from around the world; the United States, Australia and New Zealand, and travellers from across Europe who will delight you with stories of their own cultural heritage.
Day 1 - Welcome to Toronto, the Capital City of Ontario
Your rail holiday begins in Toronto, Canada’s largest city and the cultural centre of Canada. When you arrive at the airport, you’ll enjoy complimentary transportation to your hotel, the luxurious Fairmont Royal York. Built in 1929, it remains one of the city’s most popular hotels and historic landmarks. Ideally situated in the heart of downtown Toronto, you’re just minutes from the city’s famous sights and attractions. Overnight Fairmont Royal York.
Day 2 - Toronto Sightseeing/VIA Rail Toronto to Vancouve
Embark on a Hop On/Hop Off sightseeing tour of Toronto, taking you to 20 stops on a 12-mile route through the city centre and showcasing some of the city’s most impressive landmarks. Enjoy dinner at one of Toronto’s many gourmet restaurants this evening before you head to Toronto’s Union Station where you will board VIA Rail’s Canadian for your 22:00 departure. Settle into your first-class class sleeping accommodations and prepare for your cross-Canada train holiday as the Canadian pulls out of the station and heads west across the country. Overnight train.
Day 3 - VIA Rail to Vancouver
On your first full day on the train, take time to explore the Canadian’s many features, including the Skyline Car, your exclusive entertainment centre with panoramic 360-degree views from its unique observation dome, and the Park Car which is the ideal lounge car with an upper observation deck. Overnight train.
Day 4 - Crossing the Canadian Wilderness
Highlights of today’s train journey include a morning stop in Winnipeg, Manitoba’s capital city. Originally the centre of the Canadian fur trade, today the city’s downtown areas is home exclusive stores and restaurants. Take time to disembark the train for a couple hours and browse the shop-lined streets before the Canadian continues its journey west.
This afternoon the train crosses the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border, signalling the mid-point of your rail adventure. Spend the remainder of your day chatting with your fellow travellers, enjoying delicious meals in the dining car, and admiring the views from the Skyline and Park cars. Overnight train.
Day 5 - Onboard VIA Rail’s Canadian
This morning the train pulls into Alberta’s capital city of Edmonton, a geographically important city in Canadian historical events including the Yukon gold rush and Alberta oil discoveries. Make the most of your last full day on the train, admiring the snow-covered scenery and mountain towns.
This afternoon the Canadian pulls into Jasper, located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. You will have time to disembark the train and take in this winter wonderland and wildlife sanctuary. As the train continues on it passes Mt. Robson, travelling into British Columbia, the last province of your trip. Overnight train.
Day 6 - Arrive Vancouver
Arrive in the coastal city of Vancouver this morning, rested and waiting to explore this fabulous city. Transfer to your hotel to drop off your bags and set off to take full advantage of a day at leisure. Enjoy a Hop On/Hop Off trolley tour, which will serve as your transportation around this great city as well as an excellent tool for getting a lay of the land. Visit the city’s most famous spots including Gastown, with its cobbled streets and great shopping, Stanley Park, the Aquarium, and Granville Island. In addition to these popular sights, Vancouver boasts art galleries, unique boutiques and delightful restaurants. Overnight Cascadia Inn and Suites.
Day 7 - Vancouver
Your winter train holiday across Canada ends this morning. You may wish to extend your stay for a few more days to better explore Vancouver and the surrounding city of Victoria or alpine town of Whistler.
