California Zephyr - The Chicago to San Francisco train, which takes three days to travel. Experience the beauty of the Colorado Rockies, Ruby Canyon, Sierra Nevada Mountains and more.
The California Zephyr is one of the most beautiful train trips in all of North America. Whether thundering across the plains, climbing through the heart of the Rockies or just gazing at the tumbleweed blowing across the sun seared desert, it’s an unforgettable experience.
You’ll need to allocate some time; and we mean more time than hurtling across the States at 600 miles per hour. This is a leisure trip. A travel medium that has transported millions of people safely, securely and comfortably for decades from one side of the North American continent to another and the many hundreds of cities in-between. A trip where you don’t need to fasten your seatbelt before departure; you don’t even need to be sitting down!
A trip where you can gaze out of the window at the ever changing scenery or let your eyes close and enjoy a nap to the distant hum of the mighty diesels. Perhaps you might wander along to the lounge car and sip a cool drink whilst you read or chat to your fellow travellers; maybe the steward will have tonight’s menu ready for your perusal.
Fifty one hours and twenty minutes that you will never forget. That’s the time it takes the Zephyr to travel from Chicago to San Francisco. Between these legendary cities, from the vast expanses of the Great Plains to the humbling crags of the towering Rocky Mountains, the heart of America is laid before you. Superlatives to capture your attention are really unnecessary; this is truly a unique experience.
Mother Nature has many feasts for us to enjoy in the world; you will savour this one for a lifetime.
