The Canadian - The Toronto-Vancouver train, which takes four days to travel between one of Canada's largest cities and the Pacific Coast, lets you see the breadth of the country like never before.

The Canadian

You will be travelling aboard VIA Rail Canada’s flagship Western transcontinental train, the Canadian. This spectacular four day journey offers some of the most breath-taking scenery found anywhere in the world. From the calm serenity of the Muskoka Lakes to the stunning beauty of the Canadian Rockies and the vast expanses of the prairie grasslands, you’ll experience a portrait of the geographic diversity that is uniquely Canadian.

When you board in Toronto your final destination is 2,775 miles away. It will take a relaxing few days to get there. You will not be hurtling through the sky strapped to your seat but enjoying the pleasures of travel in a bygone age. Stand up or sit down when the train leaves, no one will worry either way. The miles whisper by as the huge diesels pull their carriages westward. You can look at the changing landscape, talk to your fellow passengers, perhaps stroll to the dining car for cool drink or take a nap as the distant hum of the wheels lull you into an after lunch siesta. Beware though, once you experience this it is difficult to consider travelling any other way.

Town after town passes behind you and you can sense the mosaic of cultures that have shaped the country through the centuries and the character of a nation whose identity is as colourful as the land itself. This is a memorable travel experience; which is how it should be.
