Holidays By Rail Introduces New Tour of America’s Southern Coastal Cities
All aboard for a journey to the southern states and to the antebellum homes, tea plantations, a movie train and Orlando’s beaches. Holidays By Rail launches the new America's Southern Coastal Cities itinerary to offer the ultimate in southern hospitality.
Beginning in Orlando, the route tracks along the southeastern seaboard to the historic cities of St. Augustine, Savannah and Charleston. With departures in April and October, this 7-day itinerary crosses the three states of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, as well as tours around 4 cities and 2 sightseeing cruises.
Starting from Orlando, travellers can enjoy the scenic tour on the Tavares, Eustis and Gulf Railroad, a popular movie train which has the same vintage coaches used by Johnny Cash and George Clooney. Travelling from Mount Dora to Tavares this train has featured in over 20 movies, including “O Brother Where Art Thou” and “True Grit.”
Next stop is St. Augustine, the oldest city in the U.S. and renowned for its Spanish architecture. Visit the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Site and a horse-drawn carriage tour.
Draping Spanish moss, centuries-old oak trees and stunning antebellum homes of Savannah paint the picture for the next visit. After exploring Georgia’s city by trolley, a trip to the historic founding site of the Girl Scouts at the Andrew Low House and then to Tybee Island for a sightseeing cruise to include the 270 year old lighthouse are also included.
The itinerary continues northbound along the coastline on Amtrak’s Palmetto to the city named “America’s Most Friendly City.” Here a visit to Charleston’s Tea Plantation includes a picnic to enjoy the grounds as well as learn about tea processing. A guided walking tour showcases the best sites of the Historic District follows before a cruise to Fort Sumter to witness the site where the first shots of the American Civil War were fired.
Prices lead from £2, 253 per person, which includes:
6 nights hotel accommodation; meals as specified; ride aboard the Tavares, Eustis and Gulf Railroad; horse-drawn carriage ride through St. Augustine; visit the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Site; trolley tour through Old Savannah; visit to Andrew Low House and Gardens; Tybee Island Cruise; Charleston city tour; Fort Sumter Cruise; deluxe motor coach transportation; baggage handling; and the services of a professional Tour Manager.
