Seattle Gold Rush
Follow the pathways blazed by gold miners of years past on this tour through Seattle, Alaska, the Yukon Territory and the area's waterways.
Combine the excitement of a land and sea vacation on this 16-day roundtrip tour. The adventure begins in the city of Seattle, and after an overnight stay, the true journey begins with a quick flight to Anchorage, Alaska. It is here that we meet the tour group and Journey Host and learn more about what is to come. A three-day trip through Denali National Park allows us to get in touch with nature before continuing on our tour to historic cities and iconic sites along the Gold Rush pathway. Optional excursions and free time to explore at your leisure allow experiences in Fairbanks, Dawson City, Whitehorse and Skagway to be tailored to each individual traveler. In Skagway, we depart from our Journey Host and board the MS Nieuw Amsterdam/MS Volendam for five days of seaside relaxation. Ports towns, including Ketchikan, dot the way to Vancouver, and from Vancouver, a motorcoach transfers the group back to Seattle for the return journey home.

Day 1 - Seattle
Make your way to Seattle using the airline of your choice. When your plane lands, a courtesy shuttle transfers your party from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to the airport hotel. The rest of the day is yours to sightsee or to relax in your room. Overnight Seattle.
Day 2 - Anchorage
Arrive back at SeaTac this morning for a flight to Anchorage, Alaska. Your Journey Host and tour group meet up here, Alaska's most populous city. Gather for a quick briefing about the activity and adventure to come before setting off on your own for the remainder of the day. Overnight Anchorage.
Day 3 - Denali National Park
All aboard the McKinley Explorer for a scenic train ride bound for Denali National Park, our home for the next three nights. Enjoy the rugged scenery from the domed cars on this day trip. Overnight Denali National Park.
Day 4 - Denali National Park Cont.
Spend the day gazing upon the gorgeous scenery Denali National Park has to offer and peeking upon the area's wildlife with the famed Tundra Wilderness Tour. This excursion lasts approximately 6-8 hours and takes us 53 miles into the park to the Toklat River area. The tour is narrated by a member of the National Park Service and highlights the park's history, attractions and beautiful natural sites. Overnight Denali National Park.
Day 5 - Denali National Park Cont.
The final day in Denali is completely at your leisure. There are activities in the park for all abilities and skill levels, including mountain biking, ranger-led hikes, climbing, dog sledding and wildlife spotting. Overnight Denali National Park.
Day 6 - Fairbanks
We continue onto Fairbanks this morning, a place where breathtaking mountain scenery meets a deep history in the gold mining industry. Get your own taste of the Gold Rush with a trip to Gold Dredge 8. Here we learn about miners from years past aboard a replica narrow-gauge railway and have the opportunity to pan for gold. Get an in-depth look at the dredge camp before heading back. Overnight Fairbanks.
Day 7 - Dawson City
After breakfast this morning, we board a plane bound for Dawson City in the Yukon Territory. This National Historic Site is filled with carefully preserved buildings from the 1800s, original wooden boardwalks and tales from the Gold Rush times. Take in some of the city's most iconic sites with your free time this afternoon and evening. Overnight Dawson City.
Day 8 - Dawson City Cont.
Today enjoy optional excursions and hop aboard the Klondike Spirit for a historic paddle-wheel boat cruise down the Yukon River. Mountain scenery and lovely views over the area's waters and wildlife meet city views for a one-of-a-kind experience. Overnight Dawson City.
Day 9 - Whitehorse
From Dawson City, we continue on to Whitehorse. The journey lasts approximately 7 hours; however there is a stop in Minto to stretch our legs and eat lunch. In Whitehorse, Gold Rush history can be found at every turn. The ss Klondike National Historic Site is one stop not to miss, though there are also plenty of modern amenities throughout the city, as well. Overnight Whitehorse.
Day 10 - Skagway
Our motorcoach awaits this morning, and upon boarding, we follow the iconic Klondike Trail to the town of Fraser. Here, the group sets off on the White Pass trail for Skagway, Alaska, our home for the next two nights. In Skagway, the evening is yours to enjoy the hotel room or to explore the charming mountain town. Overnight Skagway.
Day 11 - Skagway Cont.
Spend your first full day in Skagway however you see fit. There are a number of optional excursions - including heart-racing activities at Adventure Park, river cruising tours, in-depth city tours, snowshoeing, dog sledding and hiking, amongst other activities - to choose from, though you are welcome to spend the day however you wish. This small town packs big charm, and it is all at your fingertips. Overnight Skagway.
Day 12 - Skagway/Ship
Today concludes our land adventure and starts the beginning of our tour at sea. The MS Nieuw Amsterdam/MS Volendam is docked in Skagway, and as we board and set sail, the scenery changes dramatically. Check out the water and passing mountains from one of several lounge areas, or make yourself comfortable in your room. Overnight ship.
Day 13 - Glacier Bay
As we awake this morning, our Holland America cruise liner is headed right for Glacier Bay. We sail past some of this site's famous fjords and glaciers, all while listening to the narration of a Park Service Ranger. The cruise through this stunning area of Alaska lasts approximately 8 hours. Overnight ship.
Day 14 - Ketchikan
The ship arrives in Ketchikan this morning, and the day is yours to see what makes this city so special. Spend some time sampling local salmon and discovering the Misty Fjords this region is known for. Overnight ship.
Day 15 - Insider's Passage
Spend your final day aboard the boat however you see fit. There is a spa on the ship, as well as a casino, several fantastic restaurants, a pool and a fitness center. Stroll along the decks to watch the scenery change, or relax in your room and reflect on the last two weeks; the choice is yours. Overnight ship.
Day 16 - Vancouver/Seattle - Disembark
Say farewell to your fellow travelers as the Holland America cruise ship arrives in Vancouver this morning. A motorcoach is waiting to transfer you back to SeaTac airport for your return flight home.

McKinley Explorer Train
McKinley Explorer rail cars seat 86 to 88 passengers in the upper level dome. Each passenger has a reserved seat and the large curved glass dome windows run the full length of the car, offering superb 360 degree views. Seating is comfortable, with foot rests and fold down tray tables. Full bar service is available upstairs for purchase. Both levels of the McKinley Explorer are wheelchair accessible.
