Sleeping in your luxurious compartment, each day you will awaken to a new and exciting destination, the pink city of Jaipur, capital of the desert state of Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park and a tiger safari, Chittorgarh one of India’s greatest forts, Udaipur with its lakes and palaces, Jaisalmer’s dramatic sandstone fortress on the edges of the Thar Desert, the blue city of Jodhpur, the bird sanctuary at Bharatpur and the iconic Taj Mahal itself. In addition we have included Shimla, Queen of the Hill Stations, a stay at the Oberoi Cecil and a journey on the famous narrow gauge toy train.

Day 1 - Delhi
This morning you will arrive at Delhi's International Airport. Following customs, immigration formalities and baggage collection, a SITA representative will meet you as you exit the arrival terminal building and transfer you to your hotel.
India's capital and a major gateway to the country, Delhi is a bustling metropolis, which successfully combines in its folds - the ancient with the modern. Amidst the fast spiraling skyscrapers the remnants of a bygone time in the form of its many monuments stand as silent reminders to the region's ancient legacy. The first impressions for any visitor traveling in from the airport are of a specious, garden city, tree-lined with a number of beautiful parks. Remainder of the day will be at leisure. Overnight stay at the Maidens, Delhi. (B)
Day 2 - In Delhi Breakfast at the hotel
Proceed for a full day combined city tour of Old and New Delhi. In Old Delhi you will visit the 17th century Jama Masjid and walk through the narrow, winding lanes of colourful and bustling Chandni Chowk. You have the option of taking a rickshaw ride through these bazaars. Also drive past the Mughal Empire's most opulent the Red Fort for a photo stop. Visit Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated.
This afternoon proceed to New Delhi. Drive past the Presidential Palace, the one-time imperial residence of the British viceroys, the India Gate, a memorial raised in honor of the Indian soldiers martyred during the Afghan war and a drive along the Rajpath past the Parliament House and secretarial buildings. Visit Qutab Minar, the 12th century tower of victory built by a slave king and prototype of all minars (towers) in India. Also visit the 16th century Humayun's tomb, a precursor to the Taj Mahal. Spend the evening relaxing at the hotel. Overnight stay at the Maidens, Delhi. (B)
Day 3 - Delhi - Kalka
This morning transfer from the hotel to New Delhi Railway Station, where you embark on the Shatabdi Express for your journey to Shimla via Kalka. At Kalka, our representative shall be at hand to assist you with the transfer to the Toy Train a narrow gauge line covering almost 100 km, where the top speed rarely exceeds 20 mph. This rail link was built by the British in 1904 and has a total of 105 tunnels (distance is marked in 1/20km on the right hand side of the track). A packed lunch will be provided to you by our representative at Kalka railway station. On arrival, you will be met from your carriage by our representative and drive to Shimla. Upon arrival Shimla transferred to your hotel The Oberoi Cecil; nestled in the foothills of the majestic Himalayas at 2,200 meters above sea level, Cecil is a beautiful heritage hotel situated at one end of Shimla's famous Mall. The main city center and the prestigious vice regal lodge are walking distance from the hotel. Overnight stay at the Cecil's Oberoi, Shimla. (B)
Day 4 - In Shimla
After breakfast enjoy the half day sightseeing of Shimla, visiting the Vice-regal Lodge, this also happens to be the place where the partition of India into two parts India and Pakistan was planned on the world map. The British architecture here is amazing; the wooden work inside the building is still kept alive as it was during the British rule. The building is now used by Indian scholars and is called Institute for Advanced Studies. After the tour of this impressive building visit a Hindu temple containing shrines to the many and various Hindi gods. Lunch will be taken at the Clarkes Hotel on the Mall Road. Post lunch, you will also enjoy a leisurely stroll back along the Mall to Scandal Point. En route, it may be possible to have a quick look inside the Gaiety Theatre or Christ Church. Overnight stay at the Cecil's Oberoi, Shimla. (B, L)
Day 5 - In Shimla
Breakfast at the hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at the Cecil's Oberoi, Shimla. (B)
Day 6 - Shimla - Kalka
Today morning breakfast at the hotel. After early walking lunch at the hotel, you will be transferred to Kalka Station to connect your train for Delhi along with the pack dinner from Kalka railway station. Upon arrival in Delhi, you will be assisted & transferred to your hotel. Overnight stay at the Maidens, Delhi. (B, L)
Day 7 - Delhi - Palace on Wheels
After breakfast morning will be free at leisure. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Delhi's Safdarjung Railway station to embark on Palace on Wheels train. At 1830 hrs departure time for Palace on Wheels train, dinner will be served on board.
Day 8 - In Jaipur
Breakfast is served in the comfort of your sleeper cabin. The first stop of Palace on Wheels is Jaipur, one of the most well planned cities of the world of its time. This capital city of Rajasthan, popularly known as the Pink City, was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, in1727 A.D. To explore the city, an air-conditioned coach takes you to Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds, which is a remarkable five storied building along the main street of the old city in pink splendor with semi-octagonal and delicate honey-combed sandstone windows. This is followed by a visit to Albert Hall and the City Palace, home of the erstwhile royal family. Right across the road from the City Palace is the Jantar Mantar, the largest observatory built by the Sawai Jai Singh II.
Ride on caparisoned elephants (Not approved in H & S so jeeps will be arranged) adds to the ambiance at the Amber fort followed by the lunch at 1135 AD Restaurant. Then you will be off to visit Amber Fort. Shop for Jaipur's famous jewellery, handicrafts, carpets blue pottery and textiles. The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels, Dinner will be served on board.
Day 9 - Ranthambore - Chittorgarh
One can almost sense a life of the wilderness, as the Palace on Wheels arrives in Sawai Madhopur, a city named after its founder Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I. A visit is arranged to the Ranthambhor National Park, wherein are located the ruins of a 10th century fort. This wildlife sanctuary is considered to be the country's best for observing and photographing the activities of the tiger. The park, covering an area of 392sq kms is home to more than 300 species of birds. The tiger, hyena, ratel, jackal and fox are among those constituting the carnivorous population here. Sawai Madhopur is known for its exclusive toys, ethnic ornaments and costumes.
After the game, a safari canter will take you back to P alace on Wheels for breakfast on board. Lunch will be served on board as we head for Chittorgarh, when one gets an opportunity to watch the colourful countryside passing by in the daylight. Sightseeing in Chittorgarh, where we view the Images of love and valour; scars of battles lost and won…. thrice-besieged, Chittorgarh Fort is all this and more, the Victory Tower and the Tower of Fame. You will also have an opportunity to witness the sound and light show at the majestic Chittorgarh Fort. The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels, dinner will be served on board. The Palace on Wheels stays in Chittorgarh station until the early morning before departing for Udaipur.
Day 10 - Udaipur
Arrive Udaipur & your breakfast will be served on board. The city was founded by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar, after the Sisodia dynasty was driven away by the Mughals. After visits to the Garden of Fountains and the Durbar Museum, lunch will be taken at the Fateh Prakash Hotel, which contains an impressive crystal gallery.
After lunch at a Fateh Prakash Palace Hotel, we see one of the most beautiful sites of Udaipur, as we cross Lake Pichola by boat, past the majestic Lake Palace Hotel idyllically situated in the middle of the lake, and our visit to the City Palace takes in the largest palace complex in Rajasthan. The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels, dinner will be served on board.
Day 11 - Jaisalmer
Breakfast is served in your sleeper cabin. In the heart of the Thar Desert lies Jaisalmer, founded by Rawal Jaisal, in 1156A.D. Here the yellow sandstone fort is an imposing sight, towering magnificently over the city. Discover the painstakingly latticed Havelis or mansions with their grand facades. The Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli and Salim Singh-ki-haveli are fine examples of the stone carver's skill. The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels for lunch and rest. After lunch on board, go for an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes of Sam, before sipping a refreshing cup of tea.The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels for wash & change. Later enjoy the dinner and the cultural program at Gorband Palace Hotel. After dinner The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels.
Day 12 - Jodhpur
Breakfast is served in your sleeper cabin. Next morning the Palace on Wheels is in Jodhpur, a city ringed by a high stone wall with seven gates and several bastions. This second largest city of Rajasthan, founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 A.D. is known for its rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort. The grand palaces within- Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are impressive examples of architectural excellence. Near the fort complex lies the Jaswant Thada, and a group of royal cenotaphs made of white marble. Lunch will be served at the hotel Hanuwant Palace.The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels, Dinner will be served on board.
Day 13 - Bharatpur - Agra
Early next morning, the Palace on Wheels arrives in Bharatpur, the capital of Maharaja Suraj Mal. Pay a visit to the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place of thousands of Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory Water Fowl and other species of birds. The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels for breakfast on board and you will depart for Agra. Arrive Agra and visit Red Fort followed by lunch at ITC Mughal hotel. Move on to pay a visit to Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. A pristine monument of undying love; It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. Agra is also known for its splendid marble inlay work like the Pietra Dura work on the Taj, leather goods and jewellery. The Luxury coach will take you back to Palace on Wheels, Dinner will be served on board. Bid farewell to the train & perhaps a final drink in lounge bar. (B, L, D)
Day 14 - Depart Delhi by Flight
Breakfast is served in your sleeper cabin. Post disembarkation from the Palace on Wheels train you will be assisted & transferred to Delhi International airport to connect flight for onward destination. (B)
